Best time to travel May to September for beach days, autumn and winter for spa and quiet.
The Holstein Baltic coast has a mild, even maritime climate without the force of the North Sea storms. Summers are pleasantly warm, mostly around 22 to 24 °C, with sea temperatures of roughly 18 to 20 °C in July and August. Autumn brings clear light and empty beaches; winter is cool and quiet, which plays to the strengths of the castle thermal spa.
- June to August Warm beach days, water around 18 to 20 °C; the busiest but warmest stretch.
- May and September Mild shoulder months with clear light and a calm beach; pleasant for walking.
- October to April Cool and still; the time for spa, sauna and kitchen rather than long beach days.
