Best time to travel December to April for snow, June to September for alpine summer and the lakes.
The Upper Engadine sits at around 1,800 metres, Silvaplana itself at 1,815. The air is dry and clear, the sun strong, the nights cool even in summer. Winter snow is reliable; the Corvatsch area usually opens in late November and reaches above 3,300 metres. In summer the thermal Maloja wind picks up around midday, making Lake Silvaplana a fixture for wind- and kitesurfers.
- December to April Ski season on the Corvatsch with snow-sure altitude, plenty of sun and cold, dry days.
- June to September Alpine summer for hiking and lakes; the midday Maloja wind brings wind- and kitesurfing conditions.
- May and October/November Between seasons: many lifts and houses closed, trails still wet or already under snow.

The Corvatsch cable car base station sits right by the hotel; in winter you reach pistes above 3,300 metres almost without detour.

The paths around Silvaplana and Sils follow the Upper Engadine chain of lakes, with many routes manageable without long climbs.
