Our Assessment

Why we recommend CGH Earth.

A hotel group that understands southern India is meant to be experienced, not merely visited — the most considered way to move through Kerala and its neighbouring regions.

We know the properties personally. CGH Earth is not a homogeneous chain — choosing the right house is the real planning work. It begins with you: deep Ayurveda treatment means Kalari Kovilakom; backwaters mean Coconut Lagoon; beach meditation means SwaSwara. We build the itinerary around your priorities.

What stays with you
A Shirodhara treatment at Kalari Rasayana in the morning, the meditation hill at SwaSwara overlooking Om Beach in the evening — two days, two properties, a more complete understanding of what Ayurveda actually means.
  • Twelve distinct properties from Kerala to Rajasthan — each house reflects its own landscape, none is a replica of the next.
  • Ayurveda as a medical programme rather than a spa add-on: at Kalari Kovilakom and Kalari Rasayana, classical Panchakarma courses are led by certified physicians.
  • Coconut Lagoon and Backwaters Beyond access Kerala's backwaters exclusively by canoe and boat — no road traffic, no noise.
  • Sustainability without performance: CGH Earth has practised regenerative farming, community partnerships, and plastic-free operations for decades.

Climate & best time to travel

When it rewards you most.

Best time to travel October to March, with November to February the calmest stretch across all four regions.

The houses in this selection sit far apart: Kerala's backwaters at sea level, the Sahyadri hills at around 800 metres, dry Rajasthan, and the upland around Bangalore at roughly 900 metres. One thing ties them together: the dry, cooler window from October to March suits each of these landscapes. The southwest monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain mainly to Kerala and the Sahyadri highlands, while Rajasthan stays comparatively dry. Kerala's winter days run about 18 to 30 degrees, the Sahyadri heights cool to around 12 degrees at night, Rajasthan shows warm days near 25 to 30 degrees with cold nights below 10, and the Bangalore upland stays mild at 15 to 28 degrees. Where possible, time your arrival to avoid both the monsoon and the hot pre-monsoon months of April and May.

  • October to March - dry season The dependable window for all four regions. Kerala around 18 to 30 degrees, Rajasthan with warm days and cool nights below 10 degrees, the Sahyadri heights and the Bangalore upland pleasantly mild. The most coherent choice for Ayurveda stays and Rajasthan touring.
  • April to May - pre-monsoon The hottest weeks. Rajasthan reaches 44 to 45 degrees, Kerala turns humid and hot around 25 to 35 degrees. The higher elevations stay more bearable, but for longer stays this period is demanding.
  • June to September - monsoon The southwest monsoon shapes Kerala and the Sahyadri hills with strong, often days-long rain; the Sahyadri records over 2,000 millimetres a year. The landscape turns deep green and temperatures drop to 22 to 28 degrees. Rajasthan stays markedly drier. A season for travellers who accept rain as part of the picture.

Experiences

What you come here for.

  1. Backwater cruise by houseboat from Coconut Lagoon

From Coconut Lagoon, the channels of Vembanad Lake open up by boat and canoe alone. A quiet passage through paddy fields and coconut-fringed banks shows the backwaters as they sound without road traffic.

  2. Panchakarma cure at Kalari Rasayana

At Kalari Rasayana, qualified doctors lead classical Panchakarma cures over several days. Treatments such as Shirodhara follow a diagnosis, not a spa menu. A vegetarian dietary plan accompanies the cure.

  3. Spice walk at Spice Village, Thekkady

In the highlands around Thekkady, Spice Village leads through pepper vines, cardamom and vanilla. A naturalist explains the cultivation and use of the spices that carry Kerala's cooking.

  4. Sunrise over Om Beach at SwaSwara

At SwaSwara on the Karnataka coast, the day opens with yoga on the hill above Om Beach. The blend of yoga, Ayurvedic cuisine and sea views completes the picture of what CGH Earth means by Ayurveda.

Local Experiences

What shapes the stay.

  • Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary on Vembanad Lake: morning boat ride among heron colonies and water birds — directly accessible from Coconut Lagoon.
  • Pondicherry Old Quarter: French colonial architecture, quiet ashrams, and Tamil temples within walking distance from Palais de Mahé.
  • Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: elephants and sambar deer at the lake, guided bamboo raft tours — approximately two hours from Spice Village.
