Our Assessment

Why we recommend Samode Hotels.

Four properties under one family — the most coherent way to experience Rajasthan without losing the thread between places.

We know these houses personally. Guests combining all four Samode properties should allow at least two nights per house: the transitions are short — Samode Palace to Jaipur Haveli is 45 minutes — but the properties reveal themselves slowly. Ranthambore is best added at the end, before continuing to Delhi.

Fit & Season

When this property truly shines.

Best season
October to February: dry heat, clear light, comfortable daytime temperatures. For tiger sightings in Ranthambore, October to April — late season brings the best chances.
Ideal for
Travellers who want to understand Rajasthan as a cultural continuum rather than a series of sights. Families with children who should see history, not just pools.

What stays with you
Mornings begin with a rose bath in the arcaded loggia of Samode Palace while the Aravalli hills are still veiled in early haze. Evenings transform the same courtyard: candles on white linen, Mughal-style table settings, the silence of a village that has been built around this house for centuries.
  • All four houses — Palace, Haveli, Bagh and Safari Lodge — belong to the Rao family and have been personally managed for generations: the history of this enterprise is not marketing.
  • Samode Palace is not reconstructed heritage but lived heritage: fresco corridors, courtyard fountains, and an infinity pool that does not forget the village surrounding it.
  • Samode Bagh strikes a different note: garden tents beneath old trees, no noise, no effort — Rajasthan without the stage set.
  • The Safari Lodge in Ranthambore combines tiger reserve access with the same quality standard, without guests ever having to leave the network of four houses.

Climate & best time to travel

When it rewards you most.

Best time to travel October to March, with November to February the calmest stretch across all four regions.

The houses in this selection sit far apart: Kerala's backwaters at sea level, the Sahyadri hills at around 800 metres, dry Rajasthan, and the upland around Bangalore at roughly 900 metres. One thing ties them together: the dry, cooler window from October to March suits each of these landscapes. The southwest monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain mainly to Kerala and the Sahyadri highlands, while Rajasthan stays comparatively dry. Kerala's winter days run about 18 to 30 degrees, the Sahyadri heights cool to around 12 degrees at night, Rajasthan shows warm days near 25 to 30 degrees with cold nights below 10, and the Bangalore upland stays mild at 15 to 28 degrees. Where possible, time your arrival to avoid both the monsoon and the hot pre-monsoon months of April and May.

  • October to March - dry season The dependable window for all four regions. Kerala around 18 to 30 degrees, Rajasthan with warm days and cool nights below 10 degrees, the Sahyadri heights and the Bangalore upland pleasantly mild. The most coherent choice for Ayurveda stays and Rajasthan touring.
  • April to May - pre-monsoon The hottest weeks. Rajasthan reaches 44 to 45 degrees, Kerala turns humid and hot around 25 to 35 degrees. The higher elevations stay more bearable, but for longer stays this period is demanding.
  • June to September - monsoon The southwest monsoon shapes Kerala and the Sahyadri hills with strong, often days-long rain; the Sahyadri records over 2,000 millimetres a year. The landscape turns deep green and temperatures drop to 22 to 28 degrees. Rajasthan stays markedly drier. A season for travellers who accept rain as part of the picture.

Experiences

What you come here for.

  1. Rose bath in the arcaded loggia of Samode Palace

The day at Samode Palace opens with a rose bath in the arcaded loggia while the Aravalli hills still lie in morning haze. The fresco walls and courtiers' corridors of the lived-in palace are present throughout.

  2. Stepwells and crafts in Rajasthan

Around Samode and Jaipur lie historic stepwells such as Panna Meena ka Kund, along with workshops for block printing and blue pottery. An accompanied visit shows the craft on site, not in a showroom.

  3. Garden tents at Samode Bagh

Samode Bagh sets a quieter tone: garden tents under old trees, no fuss, no noise. A stay here adds a stiller side of Rajasthan to the palace nights.

  4. Game drives from the Safari Lodge in Ranthambore

The Safari Lodge adds the Ranthambore tiger reserve without guests leaving the network of four houses. Morning and evening drives in an open jeep; sightings are possible, never guaranteed. The best viewing comes towards the season's end into April.

Local Experiences

What shapes the stay.

  • Jaipur Pink City: Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort and the textile markets of the old town — sensibly done as a day excursion from Samode Haveli, which sits at the heart of it.
  • Ranthambore National Park: morning and evening drives in open jeeps — Bengal tigers are sightable, never guaranteed. That honesty is part of the experience.
  • Village walk in Samode: the village around the Palace is not a tourist village. A morning walk to the local market shows Rajasthan before it wakes up.
