Rheinhessen lies in the rain shadow of the Hunsrück and Taunus and ranks among Germany's driest, sunniest wine regions. Summers are warm, often around 25 °C and clearer than elsewhere, which carries long evenings on the terrace. The harvest in September and October softens the light and quietens the hills. Winter is cool and grey, but suited to still days in the vaulted cellar.
