Best time to travel May to June and September to October
Mykonos sits in the heart of the Cyclades and knows the Meltemi well, the reason it is called the island of the winds. In May/June and September/October days run 22 to 28 degrees, the sea is pleasant and the bays are calmer. July and August bring full season, 30 degrees and the strongest wind, felt most on the north-facing beaches. South-facing Elia Beach is often the more sheltered choice then.
- May to June 22 to 27 degrees, fresh air, emptier beaches. A good entry before high summer.
- July to August 30 degrees, full season and a strong northerly Meltemi. Sheltered south bays such as Elia Beach have the advantage.
- September to October Warm sea, the wind easing, the island breathing more calmly. Very fitting for unhurried days.
- November to April Quiet months, many houses closed, cool and exposed to wind.

The island's longest sandy beach lies right below the Avaton's hill, on the sheltered south side. Calmer than the north bays, with clear, often wind-free water.

Through the whitewashed lanes of the old town, past the windmills and on to Little Venice, where the houses stand over the water. About twenty minutes from the house.
